Pandoh Dam: Hydroelectric Dam on The Beas River

The magnificent Pandoh Dam was built in 1977 with the primary purpose of generating hydroelectric power. Managed by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), this dam, measuring 76 m in height, diverts the water of the river through a 38 km long system of canals and tunnels. The water from here is used for electricity generation at the Dehar Power House and finally released into the Sutlej River. The power house has an installed capacity of 990 megawatts.

The major source of lake water is Pandoh dam which helps in diverting the river for power generation. Pandon Lake acts as a basin for Pandoh dam and comes under the administration of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Pandoh Lake is a major attraction for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.

The dam is set amidst the picturesque hills, dotted with dense woods and the place offers a wonderful opportunity to capture some breath-taking scenes. Swimming and boating are not allowed here due to security reasons. The site is one of the best places for camping and picnic in the region.
