Kibber Village – Highest Village in Spiti Valley

Kibber village in spiti valley which many consider the highest inhabited village in the world with a motorable road at a height of 4205 meters above sea level.  This scenic village is situated in a cold desert, surrounded by picturesque mountains, barren landscape, and green meadows.  

Key Monastery, the largest in Spiti Valley is situated close to Kibber.  The landscape of Kibber is similar to that of Ladakh and Tibet and the Tibetan Buddhism is the predominant religion here. This is the reason the Spiti Valley is also known as Little Tibet.

There’s a wildlife sanctuary, the vegetation in which is said to have therapeutic properties, and you can spot mountain animals like Himalayan wolves, ibex, snow leopards and Tibetan woolly hares. 

Kibber Village comprising 80 houses, is located 16 km from Kaza at 14,200 ft above sea level. Kibber comes under Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Other nearby villages such as Komic, Hikkim, and Langshu looks similar and can be reached easily from Kibber. Though remote, Kibber has all the basic amenities like electricity, civil dispensary, school, post office, etc.

The high altitude and pollution free atmosphere is a boon for sky gazers. Kibber Village is a popular place among adventure lovers as trekking and mountaineering are the main attractions of the village. One can go to the Dandmachan Peak for trekking or mountaineering and also for photography.
